Surveillance of bacterial and fungal infections in hospitalised COVID-19 patients: an ISARIC/WHO CCP-UK and UKHSA linkage study

Objectives To characterise COVID-19 inpatients with and without bacterial/fungal preceding, co- and secondary infections, and describe the distribution of organisms associated with COVID-19 and antibiotic use. Methods We linked ISARIC/WHO CCP-UK data from hospitals in England (admissions 01/01/2020-18/10/2021) with UK Health Security Agency infections datasets of COVID-19, and bacterial- and fungal-positive specimens using a multi-step hierarchical algorithm.
