Background The consequences of prolonged exposure to obesity on biomarkers of myocardial stress and injury remain unclear. We examined associations of duration and cumulative severity of obesity from childhood to later adulthood with concentrations of N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), high-sensitivity cardiac troponin I (hs-cTnI), and growth differentiation factor-15 (GDF-15) at age 62 years.
