Our verdict
The OMRON Platinum BP5465 tops our 2026 home blood pressure monitor ranking at 8.6/10, and Firsthand earns nothing on it. It appears on the US Blood Pressure Validated Device Listing, the AMA-backed list of monitors whose accuracy has been independently reviewed, validated to the ANSI/AAMI/ISO 81060-2:2009 standard. Accuracy is the whole point of a home monitor, and a 2020 study found most cuff monitors sold online had not been validated. The Platinum adds TruRead, which takes three readings at a set interval and averages them, stores 200 readings across two users, syncs by Bluetooth, and comes with both an AC adapter and a six-year monitor warranty at a $90.99 MSRP. The limits: its cuff fits 22 to 42 cm arms, its validation uses an older version of the standard, and it is not listed for pregnancy. The AHA and AMA say home monitoring is a validated way to measure blood pressure outside the clinic. Share readings with your clinician rather than acting on them alone.

- The AHA and AMA state that self-measured BP monitoring at home is a validated approach for out-of-office measurement, that validated oscillometric devices are preferred, and that meta-analyses link it to lower BP and better control. (Shimbo et al., AHA/AMA joint policy statement, Circulation 2020 (PubMed))
- Of 278 upper-arm cuff monitors found for sale online in one national market, only 18.3% were validated, and validated cuff devices tended to cost more than nonvalidated ones. (Picone et al., Hypertension 2020 (PubMed))
