This is an official announcement record

Cutaneous melanoma is the deadliest skin cancer and is highly heritable, yet only 54 common risk loci have been identified. We conducted a large meta-analysis of melanoma GWAS, including 35 GWAS from 29 cohorts (69,871 cases; 1,616,233 controls) identifying 156 independent signals at 116 risk loci. We found a strong link between susceptibility and immunity, including deleterious protein coding variants in CPVL and IFIH1 and a novel association at HLA-A. Variant-to-gene mapping including new melanocyte H3K27Ac Hi-ChIP data implicated pan-cancer driver genes for over a third of loci, including M
